It's the application that determines what type of message it wants, and most require a Program Change to change a 'patch' or preset. With just the one midi-out, I'd have to daisy-chain my synths. IIRC from another thread, Mainstage maps incoming MIDI to controls in an intermediate utility from whence you map to your application.

The FCB1010 looks like it could help, and I see someone has written a PC editor which should make it a lot easier to create "programs" for each song & then upload a new set-list before each gig. It can send whatever PCs you configure it to send (any 100 between 0-127), but if you haven't reprogrammed it from the stock settings it might be that someone else did, in which case it might even be sending CCs instead of PCs.

I'm looking for a device to help me manage synth programs in a live setting so I don't have to frantically punch in the right patch numbers on three synths & two racks between songs. Though I can't really help you much with Mainstage (PC guy), the stock FCB typically sends PCs 0-99.
